Hi guys,

New poster but have been lurking here for a while and appreciate all the great help and advice that's given. I'm in need of some now.

I have a Mott/Alamo SD88 mower and the bearing housing on the drive side cracked. I didn't think much of it other than that I needed to replace the part. I ordered the new bearing and housing from Flailmaster and today was going to swap the old for the new and be back in business.

However when I was taking off the old bearing/housing I discovered the frame behind it is cracked/broken in several places. In fact 4 of the 6 mounting holes are broken.

So now I am trying to figure out the best way to fix it. The only thin I can think is have a plate made and placed behind the existing frame with the proper hole cut out for the shaft and then after welding it in place then weld the broken bolt holes back in place on the frame and new piece. Then drill new bolt holes through the new piece and mount everything back up.

Does that sound like the right plan? I'm not a welder so I am going to have to get someone else to do all this for me and I want to make sure with all the force that's going to be there that we're doing it the best possible way the first time.

Any advice is appreciated. I will try to get some pictures up so you all can better see what I'm dealing with.

Hi,
I've got a question about tilling an old pasture that is full of foxtails. I was going to use an old field ripper to break up the"sod" a bit before using the tiller, but I'm just not sure what to do with the grass. Right now the growth is 12-18" high, I figure I have to cut it down, but then can I till the cuttings under?

I'm hoping to avoid having to rake up and dispose of the grass/weeds

So I'm looking to buy a rotary cutter/ bush hog. There is all kinds of brands and options out there. I have a ford 1715 that has 27hp and 23pto horsepower. I'm being informed(by the salesperson) that a 5 foot cutter is the largest size this tractor can handle. Im good with a 5 footer. My question is about tip speed. Does a cutter with 16000 tip speed have more cutting ability vs a cutter with 13000 tip speed? I'm not worried about the quality of the cut, im not using it for my yard. Its going to be used in brush, and tall grass. I want a cutter that does its job without overworking the tractor. So maybe what I'm asking is which cutter has the most torque to power through some hard cutting? A high tip speed or a low tip speed?

Southern States in my area can order any Ag Spray brand sprayer in their catalog. They seem to be a good value, especially since they come with the PTO roller pump. I'm interested in a 55 gallon boomless, with hand gun. I have maybe 1/2 mile of winding fence line and several buildings I want to keep brush free with Roundup or the like. It would never be used for fertilizer or any other spraying. I can't find any written reviews for this brand, so I'm looking for first hand accounts of these units. If not Ag Spray, what is a good value sprayer I should be looking at? I think I prefer the PTO pump instead of electric for ease of setup, but if I'm wrong about that, let me know...
Thanks,

Hey everyone, wrote thread on here a few years ago right after I bought my Kubota. I got a KK 5' brushhog and a 5' Dark Horse tiller throw in with the tractor. Within a few uses the tiller was breaking tines left and right. I have searched for tines and other than one website I cannot find tines. I haven't used it much the last 2 years because my neighbor that we swap impliments has a 5' KK, but it would be nice to have my own working again! The website I found has the tines for $18.50 each! After replacing all of the tines I could probably just buy a new tiller. Does anyone know where I can get tines for these???? Any other ideas are appreciated!

I did post this already but I think I should have post it here instead of owninf/operating.

Hi all, The tractor is not mine, it's my dad. But I am alowed to use as long as I pay fuel and help him with maintenance fees . So we are looking for a rotary cutter.

Our kubota dealer wants to sell us a 48 in Titan. And he also have a 48 in thrifty from last year he said he could make a deal on it. But it'S roughly in the 1300$ for both (But I do think I can do an aggressive offer on the last year thrifty brand as he is not stocking them anymore).

But, I eventually want to get my own tractor, and I plan on going with a lger unit than a bx. So far, (I can change my mind a 100 times) I think either a B2920 or a MAhindra max 28 would be my kind of tractor (Ok, lets not start a tractor debate...). So I would like to optimize the brush cutter size for my eventually bigger tractor. I think a 5 foot would be to big for the bx. But I too think a 48 would be too small for a B2920.

So after searching a lot, I found the woods HC 54, wich I think would be a good compromise in sizing. I found some at 1250$ not too far from home (500km, I need to check with them on a shipping quote) What do you think ? Is the 54 would be too big ? The bx have a FEL that can help to balance the tractor. The cutter would be mostly use to maintain a small field that is not beign farm yet and some area on the property where it is too rough to mow. The land is mostly flat ground.

As anyone run a 54in or even a 60in comfortably on a bx2350 ? Or any similar size sub compact tractor ?

So I recently got a compact TLB and enjoy the added flexibility of having the backhoe. But two of my first projects are trenching in a wire and laying some 4-inch corrugated drain pipe. I would like to build some kind of attachment that would allow me to dig a narrow trench...I've seen a few things on the forums including a ripper tooth bolted to the side of the backhoe bucket, and someone that uses a log chain and binder to strap a strong angle iron onto their front bucket to backdrag and "scratch" a narrow trench. I'm not opposed to making a new attachment that replaces the bucket for narrow trenching and stump removal, but would rather keep it simple.

Any ideas are appreciated!

I've got the itch to buy a rotary cutter for my Kubota B3200 (with FEL). We don't have acres of pastureland or orchards, just a couple acres that includes a field that we only mow once every month or so.

Before I go out and spend my money I thought I'd check with you guys to see if I'm about to do something stupid. I've been looking at 60 inch cutters. The field area is not a problem, it's relatively flat and the largest rock is about the size of a marble. What I've been wanting the rotary cutter for in addition to the field (which overpowers the JD lawnmower) is the fringe areas. There's a hill on one side of the field with trees and small scrub brush less than an inch in diameter. What I had planned on doing was backing the tractor and mower up the hill into the brush, the hill is too steep to go across the face of the hill. My wife does it to a certain extent with the lawnmower, but it's go a much lower center of gravity.

Here's an overview:

Here's what the edges look like that I want to use the rotary mower for. In the past I used to use a weedwacker, but I'm getting too old for that crap!

My questions to you guys are these:

Am I looking to get my self hurt or damage my tractor if I use the rotary mower on this stuff by backing into it?

Am I expecting too much out of the rotary cutter to keep all the Russian Olive and other scrub brush down?

If this is not a stupid idea and the 60" rotary cutter will do the job, my next question is with regards to which one to get.

I looked at the TSC model...looks like it was built in China. I researched all I could here on the forum and if I do get one I've got it narrowed down to a Woods BB60X or a Bush Hog SQ160.

My local Woods dealer gave me a price of $1800 for the BB60X with a shear pin. The dealer that carries Bush Hog gave me a price of $1895 for the SQ160 with a slip clutch. The Woods dealer is a couple miles from my place, the Bush Hog dealer is about 45 minutes away. Both are tractor/farm equipment dealers.

The Woods dealer said if I'm not going to be encountering rocks and logs then I didn't need the slip clutch. The Bush Hog dealer says the opposite...don't buy one without a slip clutch. The BH dealer did tell me that he could do a little better on the price is I'm paying cash/check and not using a credit card.

For something that I'm only going to be using 6 or 7 times a year, do I need the slip clutch or is a shear pin model easier to deal with? A friend of mine has a Bush Hog with a slip clutch and he said you have to mess with it a bit to get it work correctly. I like it simple.

Both cutters are within a few pounds of each other. The BH SQ160 has a larger (4"X1/2") blade, but the mounting system and tail wheel frame on the Woods looks to be a lot beefier. The SQ160 is 11 ga top and sides, the BB60X is 12 ga on top and 11 ga on the sides.

Anyway, I would appreciate your thoughts, concerns, warnings, suggestions and input regarding what I'm trying to do, particularly the good, the bad and the ugly comparing the BB60X to the SQ160. Or, am I wasting my money?

Thanks!

I just purchased this FL850 to attach to my B21 kubota.
This rototiller looks to be in good condition, but has been sitting out in the weather unused for about 4-5 years. I do not have a manual and I never owned a 3pt tiller before. Could someone give me some advice as what I should check or look out for, before I put this tiller to work? I tried down loading the manual from this forum, but I just kept getting the error message?

The Kubota has the factory quick attach setup from 12 years ago. Today the skidsteer quick attach seems to be the standard. I use the forks much more than the bucket along with the carrier I had built long ago. I need a grapple. I have no interest in converting what I already have. I've looked at the bucket mounted units and they won't work for what I need. I recently found a fork mounted grapple which has the grapple pins set too low. One of those would work if the grapple was designed differently.

Anyone know of a source for a fork mounted Google doesn't seem to be a friend in this case.
