My 4720, which was working great last time I used it about a month ago, won't turn over. When I turn the ignition there's a buzzer like sound (not just a click) but engine won't turn over. Could be the battery but all electrical equipment works so obviously it's not dead, however if I push the key to heat up air intake panel goes dim and dies within seconds. Never had that problem before. It's not cold outside but very wet, dunno if that's a factor.

I have seen posts claiming that JD batteries are no good. I just thought I'd mention that I have now had my 2210 for 5 1/2 years and the battery is still strong and holds a charge very well in the "off " season. The only maintenance the battery has had is an occasional exterior cleaning. I'd say 5 years under such conditions aint bad at 'tall. That being said watch Murphy step in and kill it.....

I was looking at a 5425 that one of the local dealers has that has two work lights mounted on each corner of the cab instead of the single light like I have on the 4720. It seems as though I can never get enough light for plowing snow or other evening chores.

I think I have enough alternator output to add some lights and I think it would be a rather simple hookup for the extra light. Has anyone added lights to a cab 3000 or 4000 series JD?

48 Backhoe hydraulic hoses question

I have a 4310 with the 48 backhoe. Over time, both of the hydraulic lines that connect to the power beyond have needed replacement. I replaced them both with hoses I had made at Napa. Well, they have done their job, but since they were a little longer than the originals, they tend to kink up and get in the way. Well, this weekend when I was putting the hoe on, I was careless and pinched a hole in one of them.

So, the question is...I'm getting annoyed with these hoses not really fitting in the way they should (anyone who has put the backhoe on knows what I mean). Should I buy original parts from Deere (which will be insanely expensive I'm sure) or is there a website that carries well made replacements, OR should I have another set made up at Napa. Does anyone know the right length for those hoses if I do have them made?

Thanks for any help

Since new, my 110 has had a "chirp" in the power steering. I talked to my dealer about it on a number of occasions and they couldn't find any notifications from Deere or PIP's regarding the problem.

So, I changed out both external hyd filters at 50 hrs and that didn't help. Then, I changed the smaller hyd filter out again at 150 hrs. Same story and I could "feel" the noise in the steering wheel! Not good...

At 400 hours, I seriously considered having the dealer do the scheduled maintenance on the tractor to check out the pump, etc. But, they were backed up with work on HD construction equipment and couldn't get me in when I needed the work done before I started up my next work project that required the 110.

Well, I did the swap out of the all the hyd filters and new hyd oil (engine oil-filter, too) and lo-and-behold... the chirp went away!!! :D

The sump filter had a cluster of metal shaving's and filings that clumped together in a lump about the size of a dime. It was material that was obviously leftover in the tractor housing's during manufacturing/machining. I'm guessing that it was enough to cause some cavitation in the pickup/flow of the hyd fluid.

Ahhh... what a relief.

I changed the engine oil, filter, fuel filter and air filter. It was all a breeze compared to stumbling efforts before. The fuel filter was especially easy. Got a deep 12mm socket and attached a U joint and then long extension to the U joint. The 12 mm came out with no binding and went back in later with no problems. Once I rotated the fuel filter aseembly up to about perpendicular and above its normal postion, I easily removed the ring holding the filter by hand. I've a little "finger" tool that I use to loosen the oil filter. Bought it at NAPA.

About the only hard part was getting the air filter out and back in because of interference with that upper heater hose. That cover for the air filter WILL NOT go back vertical the way the arrow points. It never has.

Hi all,

First time poster, but long time lurker and info searcher. :D

I have a quick question for model 4100 owners.

I am interested in a used 2000 4100HST with 410 loader. I have a KK 60" tiller that I now use on my neighbors 790 as I do not currently have a tractor. I have searched for and read all I can find here on using this tiller on the 4100HST and other smaller CUTs. It seems some people do/would and some people don't/wouldn't.

The tiller weights 690 lbs and the 3pt lift capacity is 930 lbs so I think I am ok there.

The real issue is performance with only 17hp at the PTO. I will be using it in an already broken up garden, not busting new ground. Soil is mild clay loam with some limestone, but I have removed all rocks bigger than a softball. Any new advise/experience here is welcome, but the real question concerns the PTO shaft.

I am trying to convince the individual selling the unit to allow me to "rent" it to see for myself the performance with the tiller attached.

My only concern is will I need to cut the PTO shaft in order to operate the tiller on the 4100?? I can't find any posts on a 4100 having to cut the shaft to fit, but want to make sure before I go to the trouble of getting the machine home to try it out.

Thanks in advance and this forum is really a great resource.

We just got a 318 Tractor for free the other day and were trying to figure out how to install the mower deck. Its got the blower on it for the bagger. We dont want the bagger on it, just the mower deck so that it has the side discharge.

Cant seem to figure out how it all goes on there. Anyone show me pictures of theirs how all the belts go and whatnot? I think it is a 1989 or so. I can get the serial number off it if anyone needs it.
