Hey all new to this forum and to tractors as well. My wife and I bought our dream home in the country two years ago and ive got 53 acres to play around with and approx 2 1/2 acres around the house that is an ongoing work in progress.

Needless to same I learned pretty quick that a tractor will be necessary to do just about anything around the house. Im currently doing my best to save up the cash for one but looking for good deals day by day. This leads me to my questions.

I have found a used 2003 Jimna Farm Pro 2425 for sale for $3800 Cdn. This is just the tractor and does not include any implements. I guess the most obvious question is...... is it worth it? No mention of hours but from the pics it is in good condition. Couple of hours for me to go and look at it in person.

My primary use for it will be to clear my driveway (which is about 420 meters long) and my huge yard near the house. As mentioned above id also like to use it for landscaping so it sucks that there is no loader or backhoe on it. Just looking for opinions right now. From what ive been reading the positives and negatives on these tractors is pretty much 50/50.

Thanks in advance for any info

Hi all, I am new to the forum and hoping you can help me with a problem I have with a Siromer 30HP (for Siromer read Jinma) with a Y385 engine.

I have read through a lot of the posts and replies on this site and you all seem to be a very knowledgeable bunch of folks, here's my problem:

The tractor has been working well for about 5 years (about 1000 hours, clock packed up at 200!) with the exception of overheating in the summer when using a flail mower. Recently the engine stop rod inside the fuel injection pump governor lightly seized closed which meant the engine would not start (yes there was oil in the pump). I had to remove the pump to be able to open up the governor assembly and free it off, no big deal and it all works fine with no corrosion etc. The real problems started when I put the pump back on the engine.

After initially getting the pump timing 180 degrees out I finally got it timed in and it starts (with difficulty to say the least). Lots of cold cranking and it eventually fires into life with lots of blue/grey smoke and knocking - it will rev but eventually dies out at idle and is a rough as a Badgers bum. I have cleaned all the strainers; tank, banjo bolts and changed the fuel filter and double checked all the low pressure fuel lines but to no avail.

I suspected the injectors (new ones on order) but I am not convinced they are faulty now, each time I loosen the fuel pipe on each injector the engine note changes onto 2 cylinder running and the knocking reduces, more so on the front cylinder, but each cylinder does seem to be playing its part. The more I think about it I suspect it is air in the system especially as I can now see very tiny bubbles circulating round the fuel bowl when the engine is running. Could there be a leak on the lift pump? When I unscrew the plunger and pump it, some fuel comes out round the shaft and it does not seem to pump fuel back to the tank as well as I remember it doing when I ran out of fuel a couple of years ago and had to re-prime the pump. Could this leak air into the system and cause the problem I am seeing?

All advice welcome :)
Guy

Oil- Hydraulic Filter Difference

I know filter X referenceing is all but exhausted and I have done my own as well although have not actually used Baldwin or NAPA ones yet. I also realize that the OEM filters are often totally relabeled wrong. I still have a few originals. After doing my recent fluid changes I did notice my oil and hydraulic looked and measured stangely identical although labelled different. Is there a fundamental difference or are they in fact the same. I do realize the hydraulic filter should be in the 150 micron range. Is this generally the same micron size for a typical oil filter? At this point I have had no issues with my hydraulics and everything works as normal. Just to note the DF's have the large 25l. combined tranny/hydraulics reservoir that operates everything.

Thanks Dave
I could only laugh and think this is going to be fun before Christmas. Silver lining. I won't have to get rid of the old Massey. She just became the most important part of snow removal this winter.

Probably unrelated, but I did the bypass from my alternator to put a charge into the battery (from the "need to rewire...KAMA TS254C" post) and now I can hear the sucker boiling inside the battery. There is battery fluid seeping out from the caps.

Probably unrelated, but just a few minutes ago the tractor started running kinda rough, and then just died. Thought maybe I'd run out of fuel, so I added five gallons, bled the injector pump and fuel filter just in case, and it cranks as long as I want to keep ignition switch on. It turned over and ran for about 15 seconds then died again. Not sure what this is about???

I have a Farm Pro 2425. I bought it used and don't know if the cylinder head has ever been re-torqued. It has about 83 hours on it now and I want to get it done. Can someone tell me what the torque for the head bolts is in american terms? I am not much into metrics. I want to torque the head and set the valves lash.

I'm having two erratic problems. Tractor now has 128 hrs since new in May.

Glow Plug Fuse - Twice I've had the problem in the morning when the glow plug fuse blows. I put in a new one and all is OK until the next time. Tractor is stored outside but always covered with a tarp. I plan to install a NAPA ECH SW29 kill switch to disconnect battery.

Voltage Regulator gives me trouble and I have to occasionally remove and reinstall. Today I had to reinstall it at least 6 times to get it to work. All the connecters seemed shiny with no corrosion. I'm thinking about bending the tabs slightly to have more pressure inside when seated.

Winter is around the corner and I'd like to resolve these small issues.

Hello Everyone,

Longtime reader, first time poster. Because of this website is why i purchased my Foton. Very new to farming. I have a used 2005 Foton 404 with about 140 hours, my first tractor . I searched and found no answer so if there is one i am sry.

Last winter i killed my battery trying to start the tractor to scrape snow off of drive way. I tried little magnetic heaters and also a small space heater with no luck. I did use my glow plugs as well but it seems to be a slow process, unless i am not doing it right. (hold it down for about 30 seconds and repeat ).

Anyway, what i am wanting to know is......is there a "freeze out plug" on these tractors? If so where is it? I have looked and cannot locate it. Also, if there is not a freeze out plug will one those radiator heaters i see at tractor supply work? One of those that you cut out a small section of radiator hose and hook it up.
I do keep my tractor in a pole built barn with out insulation. Any questions and any input would be very much appreciated. thanks
