I'm looking for a open trailer to do a few things. If one of these tasks is not compatible with the others I'd like to know that.
1) Haul a sportscar with low clearance (not crazy NASCAR low, think Corvette)
2) Haul a zero turn mower
3) Haul 35hp CUT w/ loader (4000#, maybe 5000 with loaded tires?)
4) Haul large square or small square bales of hay. 5k pounds is plenty.

Budget is $4k, 5k max. Used is fine, aluminum is almost certainly out due to cost.

Our truck is set up for Class III and gooseneck so I have little preference there. I don't have money for aluminum but I have seen the crazy stuff people go to in loading/unloading sportscars so I'd be willing to spend a little more if that helps handling the car.

Your input is greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure if sinkhole is the right word for what I found. I was in the woods on my property chipping up downed limbs. Next to a packed gravel pad on the side of my garage there is a drainage area, nothing special - just an area that in the past had been wet and now is bare dirt with trees in it. Anyway I was going to drive the tractor in there to do some chipping, but walked through it first because I forgot the saw in the garage. walking back I fell through what was solid ground, one leg went in past the knee and I didn't hit bottom. I fell over and extracted myself. I got lucky only one leg went through. I put a piece of wood in and the cavity is at least 5' deep and is filled with water.

I felt around and it's tough to tell where the edges are, but I pushed a pole through a few areas and found that the void extends in one direction at least 4 feet, its hard to tell how wide it is. Had I driven the tractor on it I would have been in serious trouble, maybe a flip over or at least a very bad time. The weird part is the drainage ditch has been dry for a while now and I had been in it with the tractor last summer to clean it out, so this must be new. The soil is predominantly clay with lots of rocks, the area is relatively level with a slight slope and there's a slightly sunken area, which used to be the wet area, though the hole is now on the edge of the old wet area (now its dry despite lots of rain).

Anyone know what may have caused it? Any ideas what to do about it? I'm thinking of finding secure ground and then breaking through the top with the BH to see how big it is and maybe filling it with gravel. How do I prevent it from occuring again? It would have been seriously dangerous on either the tractor or if I had fallen through with both feet.

I just spent two days driving 400 miles each day. Highway pretty much the whole way. My question is why do the truckers TRY and pass another truck that is going .00000001 MPH slower then them. So you're traveling down the road and following two trucks, side-by-side, going about 10 MPH slower then you. Why can't the passing truck speed up OR why can't the truck being passed slow down? I drove from Indiana to Michigan on Wednesday and back on Thursday. Wednesday was fine, but Thursday I encountered about 15-20 of these trucks. One even gave up, slowed down and pulled back in behind the truck he was trying to pass.

I just got this tractor running again. Before I took it apart, it would turn off with the key just fine. Now that it's back together, when I turn the key off, I then have to go push the fuel solenoid in to get it to turn off. Any ideas? The old ignition switch had been screwdriver'd, so it's been replaced already. The old pressure switch and temperature switch were removed by the previous owner and replaced with actual gauges, but it turned off with the key before I took it all apart, so I don't think that is affecting it. *FIXED* Found a broken wire (Red - 12v) to the timing controller.

Also when I first got it, it wasn't charging. Turns out the the diodes/wires in the alternator burned up. Replaced all of that, and now it 'charges' at 16.5v. A Wells VR728 (for a Datsun 1200) voltage regulator sure looks like it's the same thing and will plug in place of my (tested bad) regulator. Has anyone else verified this?

One last thing: It has a Schwarts brand FEL on it. Should I be able to lower the bucket and pick up the front of the tractor?

Hello all
I searched some, but couldn't find this addressed. MX4700. I decided to check the front axle fluid level and when I removed the check plug I heard of 'puff' of air (tractor had been sitting for over a day). Level was fine, but the pressure (or vacuum) concerned me a little. I checked two more times over the last couple of weeks and got the same result. It is so quick I can't honestly say whether it is pressure releasing or a bit of a vacuum equalizing.

Is there a vent on the axle? If so where and can I clean it? If no vent, is this normal for others? Is this something I need to address? I don't want to blow a seal with built up pressure when it gets hot. I would have thought there was a vent to prevent much pressure, but I haven't found it yet.

Thanks for your comments
