Default farmall h differences in years?

still looking for an H for my stepfather. the 51 I was going to look at this weekend didn't pan out, and after another call back from the owner, it's probably being taken 'off sale' as they are simply too busy to mess with selling it now.
the 51 I had looked at was a heap.

I've found a 44 in my area today wheile on the way to work.

just wondering what the year differences are, and if i should be looking for any specific year.. or any year is better than another.

from the road the 44 'looks' to be in darn good condition.. pretty straight tins.. decent tires. rears are plenty checked.. but holding air.. etc..

The '39 model had a C channel seat frame, if memory serves me correctly, the rest are the round tube type.

Soundguy, What's been done to them since matters a lot more than what year they are. Ther weren't a lot of changes; the ones that came from the factory with steel wheels had fifth gear locked out, the gear sheft knobs, some are rubber some are iron, some have a belt pulley, some don't. Just that kind of stuff. If it's going to be a "collectable" having the serial # on the block and the tag match matters, if the serial # indicates a distillate engine instead of gasoline then it ought to have the aux. one gallon gas tank and the original manifold. (My '46 does, and it hasn't seen distillate since before I was born, I bet.)
If he wants it to use or to parade none of that really matters. They dress up real nice.
