Is anyone running their Ford 600's without a thermostat in the summer?

Just dealth with this issue on my 640 which was running cool.

Found that the orginal thermostat was not completely closing, stuck partially open below 160 deg F.

All the information (shop manual and tractor archives) I came across recommended that a 160 deg themostat be installing for the 600 model gas engine, including summer operation.

Installed a NAPA model 70 thermostat after drilling a small weep hole to match the original. Tractor now warms up to operating temperature after a few minutes of cranking.

Hope this helps. Search the archive here and at Yesterdays Tractor.

ford designed it to use a thermostat... he wasn't into putting wastefull parts in his tractors... run a thermostat... or if you overheat.. revamp the cooling syste,.. ie.. pump and radiator... no need to reinvent the wheel here...
