I have what I believe is a 600 series tractor, 650 to be exact. The problem I ran into is that the model # shows it as an 850 made in 1956. The emblem on the hood is for 600 series. Were the parts interchangable from an 850 to a 650, especially where the # info is stamped? My numbers go, {model#} 850 then between the diamonds {serial#}98909

Decoding the 3 digit model numbers on Hundred series tractors -

First number
6** - Four wheel utility type with adjustable front axle, 134 ci gas or LP-gas engine 7** - High clearance row crop with134 ci gas or LP-gas engine
8** - Four wheel utility type with adjustable front axle, 172 ci gas or LP-gas engine 9** - High clearance row crop type, 172 ci gas or LP-gas engine

Second number
*2* - Four speed transmission, no PTO or 3 point lift
*3* - Four speed transmission, no PTO
*4* - Four speed transmission with PTO and 3 point lift
*5* - Five speed transmission with 3 point lift and non-live PTO*6* - Five speed transmission with 3 point lift and live PTO

Third number
**0 - Hundred series, '55 - '57

Hundred Series tractor serial numbers -
1954 Serial number 1 - 10614
1955 Serial number 10615 - 77270
1956 Serial number 77271 - 116367 1957 Serial number 116368 - up

From my understanding this would have been a 1956 850{????} with 5 speed trans and non-live PTO. It looks like the only difference between the 2 would be the 134ci engine compared too the 172ci engine???

so.. the chassie .. or at least trans says it is an 850.. and the hood medailion.. a 50 $ part says it is a 600. all tin from 53-64 swaps pretty much with very few exception to the industrials and rowcrops.

trans may have been transplanted from a 850 as well.

check date codes on the chassie.. and engine..

okay, thanks Soundguy, how do I go about finding the codes and checking them, any good sites that give the info? I did get it out in the sun and used a miror to check the model # it definately is an 8 5 0. The serial # is either 18909 or 98909 this would keep it between 55 and 56 I believe? The numbers that were stamped back then are not the easiest to read. I also have a # off the rear it is NDA4024b.1 I have another # off of the block it is CONN 6015 J

check date codes on the axle trumpets and hydraulic top cover.. if they are close to each other and agree with the sn on the trans.. I'd say you got an 850... which is a great machine.. I got 2 of them.. real beefy.. got a 63 4000 too.. similar model 'cept mine is a rowcrop wide front..

I believe I've got all the numbers I could find.

engine block is #CONN 6105 J

Starter motor area is # 850 then <> 18909 or 98909 <> The 1st number is hard to read I believe it makes it a year difference{?}

hydraulic cover is # NCA 501 B then a 64Y under that

trans mission side also as the # NDA 4024 B 1 and under that there is a D/F

the right axle is # G286

left axle is # D 246

Thanks Soundguy, would it also be the 850? From everything I've came across the CONN 6015 J block is a 172ci engine which would match with the 8 5 0 model #. It does seem to have more then enough power especially for it size :). I wonder if someone just threw on a different emblem{hood} so it would look good
