if the unit is running, and moves in all forward 10 gears and 2 reverse gears, hot or cold. pto powers up, and shuts off ( may freewheel ).. and the machine is otherwise ok? then it's worth about 1/2 to 3/4's what a 4 speed would be worth.
IE.. a 4 cyl 2000 sos won't usually get over 2000$ restored.. and 1500-1800 for a goodun max.. a 640/641/2000 4 cyl will hit mid 2500+/- in otherwise working condition.
the man has spoken ! he just mentioned he would sell it today at work, really havnt questioned him about tranny or pto he did say it spun all the time but he only has pull inplements ,no tillers bushhog thanks again!

no pto brake on them.. so it can spin, unloaded, when not engaged. hanging a brush mower on it is enough load that it should only spin witht he pto engasged. if it spins all the time there is an issue.. like acable adjustment, or pile dup clutches / warped discs.. etc.
in my teens i worked for a guy whom had a powermaster with a select-o-speed. i used it quite a lot. my take on select-o-speeds is they are an accident waiting to happen. i stay away from them. some people like em, i don't.

they would be my least favorite tranny, . well.. maybee vieing for a 3 spd and a 6spd... the 4 spd, and 5 spd and 8spd fords are much higher on my list...
