PTO Gear keeps jumping out of gear
I have a 1970-72 Ford 3000 Desiel
This happens all the time while bush hogging, I have to ride with my foot resting on the PTO lever to keep it in gear.
Any ideas, all help is appreciated.

Re: PTO Gear keeps jumping out of gear
with pto shaft disconnected and engine off.. pto not engaged.... grab pto stub .. i bet it has a lil in / out play.. that is called thrust play.
generally it is a slipped out split ring holdingthe gbearing.. could be bad bearing or slipped seal wear ring. or could be damaged ebaring carrier.
letting it slip out eats up the engagement collar and can hammer the rear of the pto shaft till it mushrooms making it near impossible to pull out.
it's a 4 bolt job to pull the shaft.. park nose down to not loose oil.. tie pto to engaged before you pull her.
lastly.. sometimes , rarely.. it is a worn / loose detent.. and sometimes you are not getting full travel / engagement of the lever / coupler
