Changed my oil for the first time today in the 1963 Ford 4000. It is a 172 four cylinder, gas. Removed the drain plug, and found there is a screen wire cylinder snapped onto the plug, I guess to trap trash solids from being recirculated. Inside the plug cup surface, there are the following codes cast in the steel:

"9N6727A3 (oval logo of some illegible kind) CAL"

Do these numbers mean anything interesting to anyone here? The 9N caught my curiosity. Do these same engines also run in 9Ns? I know you tractor Jeopardy pros know this kind of thing . . . . . .! Thanks.

Engines are different but it uses the same drain plug. As you surmised, the screen is a course filter to keep trash out of the oil pump.

as DB said, you seem many parts ( some anyway ).. that carry previous prefix part numbers from 9n, 8n..e tc. and unless changed.. retain those part numbers.. also.. to confuse things. ford made some items have their own part number, but assigned a serperate part number when a group of aprts are used together.

that drain plug with gasket 'kit' is 9N6730WG
