Ford 8 speed transmission research: creeper option

Well, slowing the PTO won't do. I think this idea is a bust, at least using the "8 Speed" from that era. I might have to focus on "newer" transmissions, possibly from 1980 and on. That "Dual-Power" was made in 1990 for a 4630 standard....with 16 forward gears, I'm sure that the first 5 gears are under 5mph...but I'll have to do some research at the local New Holland dealer (use to be Ford).

Unless someone can tell me about the newer transmissions.....

8spd should be fine for the pto. it is a twin stick hi low range deal.

Not to take away from the conversation at hand, but found this link : Sherman Transmissions that shows the various aux. transmissions made for the N-Series. Pretty neat. All I'd even known was the Sherman. I like the one with the 98:1 reduction for the trencher. And the 8N "Fourtrans" with 4 aux, transmissions, "Worlds slowest tractor".

If you look at this Ford 4000 tranny specs (8 speed twin stick vs the SOS), the speed change between 1st & 2nd on the 8 speed is too great. During harvest, we use 3rd on the SOS. The 8 speed 2nd is a hair faster (2.0 vs 1.8 for SOS)....

And this one, a 4630 from the 90's....list the Dual Power, a 16 forward & 8 reverse tranny.

Unfortunately, this 16x8 doesn't have a speed break down to look at...

obviously not every trans is good for every application. my comment was that the pto speed is not changed by the twin stick trans , as it is using an older 4 spd trans and a PRE tranny like a sherman.. etc.
