I need one.
It is for trim work and the ditchbank (30-50 degree slope).
Thus, the light weight need. I know about oil starvation and all.

I do not want self-propelled; too heavy.

I DO NOT WANT ANYTHING BY MTD.

Is Murray still made by Murray?
Does Snapper make any?

Thanks, Gary

Are the cheap ones at Walmart MTD or Murray? I bought one for about $89 a few years ago and used it like a brush hog on my place in town. Not much grass, just rocks and weeds. It would still be working if I hadn't decided to swap the motor to the body of the next one I bought for about $120 and then bent the shaft of by running it over a stump. Not much to those things except the motor, so what difference does it make if it's MTD or Murray?

Buy used!
Find a nice clean mower from the 1970's with an aluminum deck with a good strong engine.

Around here, people have them set out in their front yard for sale all the time for anywhere between $20 to $50.

It's more lightweight than anything you can buy today and easy to maneuver.

OMG!!!!!
That brings back nightmares!
My dad made me cut grass with one of those when I was young.
It is environmentally friendly, tho!

I can't use it, though. It says it's not for tall grass.
Since the state makes me cut the ditchbank. I let it get REAL tall before I cut it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That's the kind of cheap I want. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Maybe someone will answer if it's MTD.
Real bad luck with MTD products. 0 for 3. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I've only had one Murray. It was still in good shape when I gave it to my step-daughter.

Years ago, when I lived in Ohio, I had a really neat lawnmower. It was called a Flymow. Basically, it had no wheels, a 2 stroke engine so it needed no oil other than the gas-oil mix.

We had a ditch bank that was at least 30 degrees. The flymow had a set of little hooks on the handle that you tied a rope to. You stood at the top of the bank and reeled the mower via the rope up and down the ditch bank.

It worked on the principle of a hover craft. It mulched so there was no clippings and it handled heavy grass and weeds no problem. I gave it away years ago. I wish I had it now. I have some ditchbanks and I have to burn them each spring.

Maybe you could find one on e-bay or somewhere. I know they were patented, but I haven't seen one in years. If I remember correctly, it had a Lawnboy engine on it. A really neat, innovative mower.
