Hey jgbanshee,

How's that 16 hp Briggs coming along?

I'm hoping that it is running better for you by now.

Have a nice day,
Joe

I still havent gotten the motor to run correctly. Now it is running really sloppy. It seems to be under tremendous load as it is cutting grass. It is pumping black puffs of smoke all the time. 2nd gear is really slow. The motor sounds like it is running fine as it is sitting in my driveway and with the mower blades on in the driveway. As soon as I start driving it gets sloppy.

Hey JG,

Black smoke coming out tends to make me think that it is running rich or that the air intake is being restricted in some way. Most likely, your plugs may be starting to foul out because of the carbon, and also Carbon will be building up on the head also, which can lead to overheating and eventual engine valve damage. When the carbon builds up enough on the head, it will start to glow like charcoal and when that starts to happen, a chain of events start to take place that will result in engine failure.

Hope your able to diagnose it before engine failure.

Joe
