Doing an engine rebuild and wanted to check on the type of sealants I should use?

1. Head Gasket (think it is made of copper)
2. Rear Oil Seal Housing to block/bearing cap...this has a rope seal, but the manual says to use a sealant for the gasket between the housing and block/bearing cap.
3. Oil Pan

I just wanted to make sure I did this correct...thanks.

Also, the manual says I should properly lubricate the main bearings when I install them...are they talking about luricating on the both sides of the bearing insert before I place them in the bore areas on the cap and block, or should I install them dry, then put some lucas on them? Any help would be great...thanks.

Generally nothing on the head gasket. RTV silcone for most everything
else, esp oil pans, water pumps, etc, as long as a thinner seal does not
cause clearance problems.

I put the bearing inserts in dry and apply "assembly lube" to the business
side. AL is a special grease for that purpose....better than just oil.

Don't forget to thoroughly clean the gasket surfaces first. I like to use brake-clean.
