I can't resist stirring the mower pot

No, I'm NOT suggesting this as an answer to the OP's questions. Too specialized for that application. I've got one of these bad boys on the way to use strictly as a ditch/bank mower/offset mower. Kinda pricey unless you have a LOT of work for it. Just thought I'd pass this along as one more weapon in the arsenal.

Rotary Cutters Single Spindle SM60

I've got a stretch of road to mow where there is a wide emergency lane to travel along, with a strip of grass ranging from 4' to 7' wide, just inside of a cable type cross-over barrier. The grass is on a slight incline. Hope is, this will allow us to keep the tractor on level footing, and still mow right up against the barrier. We will operate with an escort vehicle BEHIND the mower at a reasonable distance (in an attempt to prevent out of control drivers from hitting the tractor/mower...:O

No problems on suggesting other than Orange. . . but Orange it will be. Not to be confused with AC:D

LandPride rates the 6' beast at 3" which amazed me, but I'm sure the BushHog would handle such stuff better. I THINK I like the concept of having the {flail} mower up tight to the tractor, for a better COG and tighter turning radius. But, like everyone says no one around here uses a flail, everyone uses rotary.

All this talk about Empire farm days. . . maybe I need to go up there. Anyone here going this week?

LOL Your BushHog link is dead

Anyone who knows me will tell you I like a few models from almost EVERY brand (with just a few exceptions) Like I mentioned earlier, I've even got one Kubota (7510) I'm more about bang for the buck than I am about color. I'm a bit of a "pot stirrer" too! ;)

Not a thing wrong with Landpride as far as I know for that matter. I just have a very good working relationship with Bush Hog, a fantastic local dealer who handles their products, and a VERY sour taste for Woods (the other popular brand in this area)

The Bush Hog link still comes up on my end.....Oh well...Just go to their site and look up SM60. As I mentioned, it's not so much a suggestion for YOUR application, but a great special purpose offset mower.

Another option, especially if you like the idea of a short coupled mower, several brands (inc Bush Hog) offer dual spindle mowers of 7' and 8' widths. They're generally a few feet shorter than a single spindle mower, but UNFORTUNATELY, they're usually medium duty rated cutters with some limitations on just how heavy of material you can cut. There is no "silver bullet" that'll do everything.

I really like the landpride shredder,HD gearbox, tough built, a great shredder for the money!!! Guess my second choice would have to be the Rhino Brand......

I would put a 7' behind the M5040,I even seen an 8' behind a cab M5040 (3pt)

The LP 6' is $4.5k
7' is $7k

They don't make an 8' . . . oh, and it's 2011, not 2005. I'm not made outta money ye know:drool:

I dont know what brand it was in the 8' believe it was a semi mount, when I was looking at shredders they just pointed and said well there is an 8'cutter behind a 5040.

I purchased my 8'pull-type for $6300 and its the RCR3596

You can be the first one on your block to own
a flailmower and become member of the
"Flail Mower Nation".

But in all seriousness your budget for aquiring the
prime mover and the mower is going to be the
biggest issue.

I will be there this week on Thursday as well as
Whites Farm Supply which is the regional Kubota
dealer in Central New York.

Parking is $10.00 per car and exhibits are free,
you can rent a golf cart for half or whole days,
there are at least six vendors of ice cream and
hot food on the grounds with beef, pork and
chicken dinners The Red Jacket Volunteer
Fire Company cooks hamburgers, red and white
hot dogs and sausage etc., the show closes at
4 P.M. on Thursday.

:

White's Farm Supply is a fine dealership. But they are far from the only Kubota dealer in Central New York. Empire Tractor, Goodrich Implement, Evans Equipment and John S. Blazey, Inc all serve the central NY area with Kubota parts, sales and service.

I have had excellent service from Blazeys and have friends who have had good luck with Empire Tractor.
I wish I could make it to EFD, but it is not in the cards this year.

I'm not going either. Need to get ready for two days - while it stops raining for a while - of weed and fungus control. Plus I need to go see about a new tractor. Oh, plus going to work to pay for it all:mad:

I notice you failed to mention the Kubota Dealer in my town . . . Oh! thats right! the salesmanager that was there when I bought my last M5040 is no longer there and the rest of the sales crew thinks customers are so stupid that we don't know that 85% of MSRP is quite do-able!!
