Snow Equipment Owning/Operating When do you start removing snow

Conditions dictate, but in general I'm out before accumulation goes beyond 8". Sooner if things are heavy/wet. Beyond that it becomes a struggle due to geography and roadside clearance. Backblade and loader are the weapons of choice.

That's the real deal... I see you are using drift cutters are they a good investment ?

Me too....

But I only snowblow during a storm if someone needs to get in or out. Other than that I wait until it's all over. But the unit i have is 30 inches high. Get drifts higher, but I still try to wait until it's over.

I like to wait until it's over. Flyingcow: wife's relatives are from the Houlton / Fort Kent area. You guys know a thing or two about bad weather up there.

It depends on how the storm lines up with the ladies work schedules. I need to make sure they can all get in and out when needed and one of them has been working rotating night shifts. If they are all in for the night I'll let it go until 5:00 AM. then get it open for first trip outs then have it cleaned up and pushed back if needed by mid afternoon when they start coming home. That 12" storm I had four inches at dawn and I started while it was still coming down about an inch an hour. I put on seven hours on the tractor clock over the next twelve hours but the road was always passable by a sharp-shod car. The next night I went out after supper and cleaned off the last two inches so the night shift car would have no trouble. I'll try to adjust as needed to whatever weather is coming .Mother nature gets quite a say in this and you have to work with her.

Plowed during the end of the storm the other night, (12" total) so I'd be able to get to work in the moring (2600 ft. gravel drive). Cleaned up after work the next day and then day after cleared paths around the property for access to everywhere plus room for the horses. Gotta say, the BX is small but I'm able to get into areas that I couldn't with a bigger set up. I have the Kubota 60" hydro blade on my BX2660.

For me, it's what I am in the mood for. If I feel like getting out on the tractor, then I'll plow when there is 4 + inches. Otherwise, I wait until the end of the storm.

Between the front plow and rear blower, snow depth doesn't matter to me.

Yup needed them for this one (glad I had them)

I recycled them off an old walk behind.

Works well! Along with the wings almost eliminates previous spoil run piles coming out of blower or traveling too fast

Houlton/Fort Kent one end of the County to the other. I grew up next door in Hodgdon.
