EZR 1542 blades won't engage

I just replaced the blades and belt on the deck, and now the blades won't engage without smoking the belt. Could the blades be too tight?

I checked the belt, it's the same part number and length as the one I took off.

Check that you haven't inadvertently mis-routed the belt outside the belt guides. There will frequently be at least one guide associated each pulley.
