I have a newer grey market Kubota, model is GL-21. It's beena great running tractor for almost 2 years now and done everything I've asked of it.
This afternoon I was cruising dow ny driveway to load it up on the trailer to take to a friends so he could use it while I am out of town next week. Well I made it almost 1/2 way down my 1/4 mile drive and I heard a loud pop, the front end nose-dived and I watched the front right side wheel roll out into the yard.
At first I though something happened to the lug nuts/studs. Nope, the axle stub busted! It is a 4WD tractor so I'm not sure if I'll be able to easily replace this but I'm guessing it's going to be a fairly unique part to this tractor. Maybe I'll be lucky and this will be a common part among a lot of the Kubotas. My first guess would be a L2800 since it had the same engine and seems to look (aesthetically) the same as my GL-21.
If any of you parts suppliers out there with contacts in Japan can get this part for me please let me know. If price is reasonable and I can afford it I may just replace both sides. I am a frim believer that if one of something goes bad on a machine chances are good the other ones aren't too far behind. Maybe overkill in most situations but this would have been disastorous if the wheel would have been on the down hill side. I don't even want to imagine what could have happened.
I don't have a parts manual or anything for the driveline on this tractor other than the D1403 engine so I have no idea what the part is called or what the part number would be. I am getting a shiny new digitial camera later this week so I can post pictures when I get back in state if it will help. If you know what the part is please let me know and if you can get it even better!!
I have some serious driveway maintenance to do in the coming weeks with the constant thaw-freeze cycle common in NE Ohio this time of year so I'm a little rushed. I can wait if I have to of course.
Thanks in advance for any help!
Phil
