We have a Hinomoto E280 with 786 hours on it. We are the original owners, and we are thinking about listing it for sale. We have some questions and I thought some feed back from this forum might offer some insight.

1. What would be a fair market value? Is there a Tractor Blue Book?
2. Is there a market for these old(1976) Hinomotos?
3. Is there a Hinomoto specialist/mechanic? ANYWHERE?

Any info on these questions would be greatly appreciated.

All the body panels were removed bead blasted and repainted in the early nineties. We also have the original paper work, original owners manual, and a repair manual(not from Hinomoto). The back tires are original and do not leak.

Really trying to get some more info on these tractors and if there is a market for them. Before we post for sale with all the info.tractor 013.jpg

Your experience with information regarding these "obscure" tractors is going to be a continued theme.

Market? Whatever a willing buyer will pay you. Don't be suprised if prospective purchaser's walk away when they find there are no service/repairs readily available. That would lower the value for most.

But

There are many units similar to yours around, many of them are NOT for sale, as the owners are satisfied.
There is a post up top from someone who is considering a Hinomoto wondering if $6k is a fair price. I have no idea how the two tractors compare.

I know in this area, there is a market for any tractor that runs , Just not a high market value for the "less desirable". Post it on Craigslist for $4K and see if you get any response.

I have no need of that tractor , so my fair would be less than 1/2 of that, and would seem fair to me ;-)

Do a "global search" (use google) of craigs list and see what turns up.

Thanks for the info, We don't really need to sale it but thinking about updating a few items(bigger), this tractor has served it's purpose for us. I know what you mean on fair market value. !!!!! LOL . Once again thanks

The E-280 is far from obscure. Unlike many of the Hinomotos you see in the US, these were also marketed under "US" companies. Allis Chalmers 5030, and Massey (forgot the model#). All from the same factory, different colors, different sheet metal. Made in '76 was not sold until closer to '79. This tractor was purchased in a large lot by a company in Spring Texas. They replaced the hood decals with their own name "Southern Tractor". They designed and fabricated the bumper on your unit. Your muffler came off a Allis. The Hino mufflers were black. They also were a Allis Chalmers dealer so the parts and service for these tractors were already in place. You have a nice low hour machine but I think 6G is out of reach. If I had to guess I would say 1/2 that. I have had one for over 20 years, it is a great tractor. If mine were to die I would be looking for another one. I understand some parts are no longer available. The one way clutch for the PTO being an important one. Agco now owns the Allis line parts and service. (and Massey?) I have a Allis parts book if you are in need. Good luck!

Topbuilder,
You are correct on your statements and this tractor came from Southern tractor in Spring, Tx. I also have the Allis Chambers parts book, original books, and with some MF parts #'s that cross over. My family actually took delivery may of 1980 from Southern Tractor. It was mainly used to mow grass on our farm. Pretty much all it gets used for now is to move trailers around the yard or to drag a piece of RR iron for leveling dirt or sand.

I also have a E280 from Southern. Would you have a part number for a hydraulic pump. I am having a hard time finding one.
