A properly maintained sickle mower does less damage to the plants. It doesn't "pull" on the plant like a disc mower so the plants recover faster.

I don't think thats a big problem, I can run my disc mower through a windrow and it will cut the previously cut hay again with nothing to pull on. The tips are spinning at some crazy speed, its the same reason it doesn't like rocks.
