ok, those are passion fruit, look up passion fruit vine, in a google search, they taste very distinctive almost like a sweet tart kiwi. Most books say to only eat the gel around the seeds, but i've seen the iron chefs use the entire contents of the fruit except the shell. Not ripe till the membrane inside turns fairly clear.
