Any body have any experience moving large squares with a single spear designed for round bales? Not moving many, just buying a few since we can't get any small squares around here right now.

The bale slides down around the spear because the hay pieces aren't oriented in a circular fashion. Won't work well, but will work better with strings at sides, not top and bottom.

Could it be speared through the end of the bale?

We use to get tractor trailer loads of big squares and handled them with a standard round bale spear. Would pick up two at a time with big tractor.

Local dairyman handles big square bales with a regular 2 spear rd bale mover.

If you have a welder you could weld 1 or 2 short spears a foot or so from the long one to keep the bale from spinning.

regular round bale spear with a couple "anti-rotation" prongs moves them easily. Spear from the side of the bale, not end or top.

Thanks for the input. Finally found a bunch of good small squares. Got them moved just fine with a pair of gloves. Ha
