Kuhn FC283TG coming up at an auction with a 2pt. Hitch. Anyone have an idea how much tongue weight one of these has. I've read about people hauling 2pt mowers by chaining them to a flatbed on a pickup. Or a hitch to go in a Reese hitch. Or would it be best to trailer it.

Any info would be great, Thanks.

Those mowers don't have much tongue weight at all, the FC283 is pretty small so a half tonne would have no problem with it except the 2 point. I just made a 100km round trip with my tractor to pick up a 3.5m moco with a 2 point. 2 point is so much nicer in the field but a bit of a challenge to transport long distances. Easiest just to transport with a tractor, much safer then trying to rig something up to a truck too.

Be careful if you are mowing with a 5083E. The hitch arms tend to vibrate out of adjustment causing all of the weight of the mower to be carried on one arm which will bend/break the 2 point on the mower.... I had an FC300 on a 5093E last year, tractor had the power to run it but not the size, weight or strength. The FC283 might be a better match.

Also depending on your local laws it probably isn't legal to tow anything over a certain weight without brakes with a pickup. I towed a 3m JD moco home a few years ago with a regular hitch on my 3/4 tonne, I'd guess tongue weight wasn't over 1000lbs.

Well it's a bit farther then what you traveled. 70 miles one way.

I built this hitch. So if we end up getting it, I'll let ya know how it turns out.
