Anyone care to offer an opinion of what oil to use in a small Honda engine ie: generator, pressure washer, mower, pump. I am trying to find the Honda Power Equipment oil but it is over $9.00 here. I've seen some manuals state that automotive detergent type 10w-30 is spec'ed but I've also read not to use automotive oil.

we use castrol 10w30 in all our hondas they have been running for years with no problems oem oils can be made by anyone whoever bids them the lowest contract price

Use a good grade of 10w-30 oil and you'll be good.

Ditto. If what they are selling is $9.00 a quart, there better be a prize at the bottom of the bottle :)
