I don't know what a M48(Honda) is (ztr ?),but my 2003 JD-GT235 has never given me a lick of trouble with a 617 V TWIN air -cooled 18 HP Kawasaki motor(over 400 hrs).

I'm pretty partial to all my Honda GX engines. Start easy and keep going. I have heard good things about the Kaws though. I'm sure they're just as good...afterall they put 'em on Toro mowers.
