I have a grapple on my tractor which I love dearly and have on probably 90% of the time. Problem is that about once a month I manage to rip off a hydraulic hose or abraid it somehow. I guess it isn't a surprise since the attachment is always in a brush pile or picking rocks, or whatever.

Does anyone know of a product to protect hoses and fittings? I suppose some welded plates could help but they might also grab more stuff by being there. There is one plate where all the hoses come together which actually makes it rather difficult to remove the broken hoses since its tough to get a wrench in there.

The hoses obviously have to move a fair amount with the tilting of the implement and the grapple closing.

I was thinking some sort of tough sleeve to go over the hoses and the coupling.

Thanks for any ideas.

Look at the "Spiral Gaurd" or "Hose Armor" at DHH. That should take care of your troubles:D

I agree the hose protectors will guard against abrasion, not necessarily against getting them ripped off by catching them on something. Steel protector plates would work best for that. You'll have to fabricate them in some manner where they will not catch.

Jerry, do you have a photo of your installation? I'm not sure why, but my grapple's hoses have been trouble free. It also might be that my grapple is attached to my rock bucket instead of a regular grapple. The rock bucket probably shields the hoses from damage.

Now that I've said this, just watch me rip both hoses off the next time I use my grapple.

I'll take a couple of pictures and try to post them. Always a challenge for me :p

The hose guards look interesting.

The reason we can see older posts must be because "we might not be done with'em yet"...:D
Agree though that bringing up an old post to advertise your own business is like "spamming"....Buy an ad banner spot from TBN instead....

Please don't under estimate the value of the old posts. I'm new here and have read way back into many of the subjects here and found great info. This is a top shelf site and I see evidence of many members keeping things on track (I recently did a internet search on my old Cockshutt 40. Holy Hanna). I agree with Akkamaan and see a lot of old posts that would be worthy of renewed discussion. And I'm not an advertiser, honest.
