2005 Kubota L4400
Well I'm back for some more expert advice. I built a power angle snowplow for my Kubota 4400 using a Curtis truck plow and the pictured plans from this site. Now I have to plumb it and that's where I need the help.

I realize I need a crossover valve (plow has 2 single acting cylinders) but was wondering if somebody could suggest an actual unit (manufacture & part #). I've looked around and have found things named "crossover valves" but, being a complete newbie to hydraulics, I'm not sure if they are appropriate.

Secondly, do I need flow control valves at the cylinders to limit the speed of the angle change or can I simply plumb the cylinders up to my remotes directly?

Thanks for your help!

Just use a regular 4way valve. You direct oil to the back side of one cylinder . The other hose from the back side of the other cylinder is just like the hose from the other end of a double acting cylinder. The cylinders are returned mechanically by pushing on each only need one.

You are correct, but he is looking for a Cross-Over Relief Valve to protect the plow in case it hits something imobile.

Have you checked with Curtis to get a price? I just looked in the Surplus Center catalog...they did have them before but I could not find it in there now, maybe you can call them also. EDIT: I just found THIS
You want a "Crossover Relief Valve"
The valve is not a "must have" but more of a "should have" so if you can't locate one, you will just have to be extra careful:D

As far as restrictors to slow things down, you will just have to wait as see how fast it moves. They are easy to add later if needed.

Oh yeah I used one of those on a Hydraulic Post hole digger I built once.
Never thought about it on a snow plow because they are usually spring loaded and if you hit something they just fold over then spring back. Don't see that you really a cross over relief on a plow blade.

Bob,
The valve goes on the angle cylinders, not the lift. It is there so that if the forward edge (like the left side if angled to the right \) strikes a curb lets say...The blade may not trip do to the height of the curb, but with the crossover relief valve, the massive increased pressure in the left cylinder will trip the relief and the blade will angle the other way. This can save the frame of the plow and the vehicle, and also keep from bending a cylinder rod. Most if not all truck plows have them (Meyers, Fisher, Curtis, Blizzard). Even my 380 John Deere blade has one.

I love this place, I'm always learning something new & useful!! :D

I just added a 6.5 foot meyer plow to my TC33D. I was able to get the crossover valve from my new holland dealer that sells the Curtis plow set up. I was able to get the valve for about $88.00 sold by Curtis. To me well worth it if it helps protect the plowframe and the tractor. I have not added flow controls to the angle cylinders. They do move fast if you're not careful. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all of this!

I hadn't thought of asking Curtis for one because I thought their crossover was built into some larger assembly.

I did find a valve at Grainger.com - their part #4HL35 for $82.55. This is actually a Prince Manufacturing DRV-2HH valve that Grainger sells. Can anybody tell me if that would also work?

Kenny explained exactly what I want this valve to do. Up here in NH the dirt driveways often aren't all dirt! Boney you might say.

Thanks again.

I just followed Kenny's link above to the Surplus Center and found it to be the 1/2" NPT version of the same Granger (Prince) valve I had questioned about in my prior message. What a great price! If this is appropriate for this application, I'll order it. Anybody know why this wouldn't work?

Thanks,
Barry S.
