Those are great pictures!
It does look like both the rod extension and the end cap should be unscrewed to allow dis-assembly. I would start ahead of time soaking with a penetrating oil! (PB Blaster is my personally favorite) First, it's probably easier to leave the cylinder connected to the machine at the rear while you take it apart... After you get the end cap off, use the piston like a slide hammer to pull itself out of the cylinder. Be sure to look for hidden retaining rings before pulling to hard if it does not come out right away. Once the rod is out you will have full access to the seals.

A handy tip for replacing the seal on the piston rod, you will haft to streach the seal ring in order to get it on the problem is that it wont return to its natural shape if you try to push it back in before it returns to its shape you will more than likely ruin the seal. when you get the seal on use a hose clamp with a thin strip of metal between the seal and the clamp to compress the seal let sit for about 20 min then it should go in a lot easier. ive made the mistake of shoving it in and cutting the new seal.
