Hello All,

I think I have read just about every thread on this forum regarding adding rear remotes for a TNT system. You guys are awesome. Thanks to your help I have just about everything figured out, but I have a question about my valve selection.

My tractor currently has a 1/2" ID line running from the FEL PBY port to the backhoe. I am planning on putting the new valve in this line. Based on KennyD's recommendation I am thinking of using the 2 spool, 7 GPM joystick valve from Surplus Center. My tractor hydraulic system is rated at 6.87 GPM so I think the valve should be okay. My concern is that the in/out/pby ports on the valve are SAE6 (3/8"). Although the valve is rated at 7 GPM do you think this will become a restriction in the flow to the backhoe?

The next size 10 GPM valve at Surplus has SAE8 (1/2") ports, but includes a regen feature, which I wouldn't really need in this application (not to mention it is $50 more).

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

Dave, look at this valve from the Surplus Center- 9-7677, solves your dilemma for $200.

BTW How do you add an inline hyperlink when posting messages?

I do it like this:

-Type the text you want to display
-Open a new tab/window with the link you want to copy and "copy" the address in the line at the top
-Switch back to the reply window
-Select (highlight) the text you want to make the link, then press the picture of the world in the top-center of the reply window.
-When the pop-up comes up just "paste" your link into the box and click OK.

Hi Kenny,

Thanks for the reply. I guess I was hoping to use the 7 GPM valve due to its smaller size as long as it didn't cause a flow problem. Here's my thought: the valve is rated at 7 GPM so the port sizes must be appropriate for that flow rate and even though my backhoe has a 1/2" supply line the tractor pump still can only put out 6.87 GPM. The 1/2" line probably helps reduce friction loss. Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

Tough call Dave...not being an "engineer" but rather a seat of the pants kind off guy I think I would go for the 7GPM valve. It meets specs so that is good enough for me.

I agree with Kenny that the 7 gpm valve should work fine.
Click here Hydraulic Reference and scroll down to the flow capacities of hydraulic lines chart. It shows that 3/8 hoses can safely carry 7gpm.

jdfire,

Is this the one you are looking at?

3RRL: Thanks for the reference chart. Looks like another good one to hold on to. My main reason for adding the remotes is for a TNT system. I bought a new boxblade after seeing the many accomplishments you have made with yours. :D

JMynes: Yes that is the valve I am considering. KennyD had recommended it in some other threads for TNT systems. It looks like a nice compact valve.

I think I'll probably give the valve a shot. I figure that even if the valve ends up having an effect on the backhoe performance it wouldn't be too difficult to plumb the valve with disconnects and take it out of the series when using the backhoe. As it is now I wouldn't be needing the valve when the backhoe is attached unless I added a thumb to the backhoe in the future.

Thanks

I doubt you will notice any difference-and how often do you run your engine at full throttle when operating the BH anyway? My point is that you will only have that 6.87GPM flow at full throttle anyway.

Well, I received the valve but my tractor was still in storage at my sister's farm. Finally brought the tractor back home the other day so I can work on this project. Played around with a few locations for the valve and think I found one that works pretty well. The first two photos show the valve held in position with a couple temporary straps. In the final installation the valve will be level instead of tilted up like the photo. Seems to be a comfortable position when sitting in the seat. Easy reach without being in the way. Now to work on a mounting bracket. Unfortunately my metalworking skills and tools are not on the same level as many of yours, but I know just enough to be dangerous;) Should be fun!

I will also be installing a selector valve on the outbound PB port from the new valve that will direct flow to either the backhoe or the 3pt. This is similar to how the tractor is currently plumbed. There is a hose coming from the FEL PB that either connects to the backhoe or plugs back into the manifold (3rd photo) on the side of the tractor to power the 3pt.

After seeing where everything was going to be mounted I went through and figured out all the connectors, adapters and hoses I would need. I placed an order with Discount Hydraulic on Friday. Because I'm not exactly sure where all the lines are going to be routed I am going to try reusable fittings so that I can make the hoses myself as I see where they will fit.

Have a nice day everyone!
