us consumers really feel the crunch, Yes a lot of us overlook the overhead cost in owning and running a business, but I think some places over price their products do to the lack of sales, actually more now then ever I am seeing things go up and up simply because the retailers are trying to make up for the loss of sales, and again it starts in the manufactures whenh there sales go down the demand of products or down so they have to increase cost,
They can call it what they want, their excuses are things like shipping, delivery, fuel cost, insurance rate, etc, but in order to stay in business and have a good customer/business relationship you have to absorb some of these cost, and when you can do this you will have return customers, not folks walking out the door feeling as though they have been ripped back,
I know! I've run my business for over 30 years and have learned to absorb
And what happens when there is no place left to absorb the costs?
When my sales went down with the economy, I lowered my prices in order to increase volume.
I came to the realization that some people can't be pleased even if they were given the product for nothing.
I had loads of repeat customers. Almost every sale was a repeat customer. In my 2 years of open doors, I knowingly had 1 customer that left unhappy and I'm told from other businessmen in the area that he is never happy. In a good economy, I made a decent profit. I would not have ever gotten rich, but I would have lived comfortably. The economy tanked, and that was the end. There are some bad shops out there, but, for the most part, the profit we make is what we need to run our business. Funny thing is I have a buddy about 40 miles away with a huge hose shop. He absolutely rips people off beyond belief. He's still in business and living well. I'm thousands in debt. Maybe I should have followed his business model.

I want to thank Wayne County Hose for the reply. It just seemed high but the fact is I was able to drive to the shop, hand him the hose and walk out 5 minutes later with a new hose, all with quality parts. With the backhoe down and in the middle of a job it really ended up being a good deal.

Regarding Wayne County's post...
In my earlier note about the cost of custom hoses,
I was trying to say that I got exactly what I needed right now.
The assurance and convenience are worth the cost.
If we were a little bit closer, I would gladly do business with him. Such service is invaluable.
