Tractor
Deutz
Hi
New to the forum but have been reading for awhile.
Maybe you all can help.
I have a Deutz DX160 tractor and have been trying to do
some ripping (3 shank on 3 point hitch) and after a hour or 2
the hydraulics begin to growl when I lift or lower the lift arms.
And the growling also affects quickness of which it raises and lowers.
I've fixed the leaks, checked the screens - replaced the filters, drained the fluid (clean as a whistle) and replaced.Blew out the cooling fins on cooler.
I'm wonding if I should replace the pump?? I did notice a replacement pump
is a larger 22.5 cc where as the tractor was manufactured with a 16 cc pump.
Beginning to wondering if this was a common problem with the smaller pump.
But $400 if I do it myself. Anyone got any suggestion on any other avenues
I may be over looking? I'm open to ideas.

Have you checked the hyd pressure?

Does the 3pt work normal?

Have you check out the descent knob . Screw it all the way in tight and back it out to the correct setting.

Have you checked the hyd pressure?
Had it in the shop when I first bought it (18 months ago) Shop said the pressure was excellent.

Does the 3pt work normal?
For the first hour or 2 depending on outside air temp. The cooer temp the longer
time frame before it starts acting up.

Have you check out the descent knob . Screw it all the way in tight and back it out to the correct setting.

I'll have to look in the manual to see if I can find this??

Thanks for the suggestions

The knob will be close by, or under the seat.

The growling sound you hear might be the sound of a relief valve relieving.

Just need to find the cause.

Do you have any other hyd than the 3pt?

I did noticed when I was planting last spring it would act up(growling)
later in the day but not as noticeable and didn't give it much thought.
Should have been a red flag I suppose.

If the growling is the relief valve, it should not be relieving except when the lever is in the full up position. If your 3pt lever is in the max up position, the 3pt relief will relieve and screech or growl.

Before you adjust anything, plug in a hyd gage somewhere after the pump, and read the pressure, and then raise the 3pt lever to max and read the pressure.

In an open center with all valves in neutral, there should be very little pressure.

I think I may be miscommunicating. I only hear the growling when the hydraulics are at work when lifting or lowering the 3pt. When it's all the way up or down
it no longer growls. I can let the tractor cool off for a couple hours and the growling will cease until it heats up again and starts the problem again.
I left the 3 pt (with ripper on) in the up position all night just to see if it would bleed off -- it didn't so I don't beleive I have a internal leak.

If you have air in the hydraulics, the sound will be elevated.

Check your tank for airbubbles and the color of the fluid.

Once again JJ is right, air bubbles will make it growl. What bothers me is it is after working for a while, you may have a hairline crack letting air in or a bad filter, either way I would drain the system and put in the correct trans hydro or hydro fluid in. For $50 or so in fluid I would not keep running it this way.
