Just bought this tractor and the hydraulics don't start to work untill it has ran for a number of minutes (sometime 20)

Maybe it has a suction leak, preventing an easy prime.

Maybe fluid type and condition for the climate.

I have removed the suction strainer and cleaned an is working better, I can't see how it can be asuction leak as it is all under oil in the sump an shows no sign of leaking on the outside as it would show when it is stopped,,, The fluid seems normal although it has a slight milky colour which I will change when I can afford the $250 for the oil. Hot 40 deg days lately
