Tried to use the post hole digger on my 1970 Diesel Ford 3000, The auger went down to China and the tractor did not have the hydraulic power to pull the auger out of the hole. Also I discovered the digger only goes clockwise and wont go counterclockwise. What am I doing wrong. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :)

I have done this too, You just let your 3 point hitch down slower so that the auger can't take as big a bite as it's drilling the hole. All I do when I get stuck is screw the auger out with a big pipe wrench.

If the auger is driven by hyd, it will be reversible.

If it is a gear box only auger it will only turn one way when using PTO.

1, don't let augers run at pto speed. most people run them at IDLE

2, take small bites and clean the hole often.

3, take small SHORT bites.

4, if you like running the pto faster than reccomended and just let it screw all the way down into the hole, don't complain that your tractor has bad hyds.

5, If you practiced #4 above, then time to buy a BIG pipe wrench so you can unscrew your auger ( or dig it out with a shovel ), then, refer to #'s 1-3
