serial motors=stator winding and rotor winding are in series. Their magnetic fields are always in the same relation to each other regardless direction of the current. In example drill, circular saw, vacuum cleaner, mixer and many other machines have serial motors running on AC. Serial motor will run on AC or DC.
To reverse serial motor you have to reverse one of the winding.
Motors with permanent magnets are will change rotation when polarity is reversed and will not run on AC.
