Here are a few more pictures. I have almost everything
cleaned and all of the old gaskets scraped off. I found some
old epoxy on the inside of the clutch housing and because
of its location I think someone tried to fix the broken
front transmission cover with the epoxy. That didn't work
so the cover was welded and re machined to fit back
on the transmission.

Ok, I have been waiting for the axle housing gaskets and
I found out 12 days ago that they are no longer available!
I found a different supplier for the axle housing gaskets
and they came today. I can now get started on the
reassembly. Here are a few pictures of the new
gaskets. Oh by the way the new gaskets
came hidden in a large sheet of compressed
gasket material. This sheet is a direct replacement
for the old gasket material without the asbestos.

Gotta love having all that gasket material. Sure is coming along nicely.

I've had difficulty in getting gaskets as well, specifically for a Bolens G244 front axle. One place told me they were no longer available and I went elsewhere and they claimed they could get them. When they showed up in the mail from the second place they were wrong so I guess the first place was correct that they were no longer available. I've since opted to make my own gaskets. Circle cutters, hole punches, and a razor knife can make pretty good gaskets. I usually draw up the pattern in CAD, print it out, tape it to the gasket material and trace it out with the cutting tools. Seems to work pretty good. Certainly not as good as factory but a lot faster and more reliable (from an acquisition standpoint).

Be careful in using silicone or other adhesives in lou of gaskets. I've found gaskets are required to maintain the desired clearances for gears and bearings. So you'll want to keep as close to the original thickness as you can with replacement material unless you need to make up for some wear in which case you may need to use slightly thinner material.

Yours in an amazing restoration. I would have to say that you might have this little tractor BETTER than new when you get done. Good job !

I had my camcorder setup while I did some assembly
yesterday and I did some commentary as I went along
but apparently the head needed cleaning and its
not working at this time. Anyway here a few more pictures.
Also the bearings on the end of the PTO shaft
are a press fit and not easy to use a press to press them
onto the shaft. You don't want to just pound them on
there with a hammer. Could break something and its not
good for the bearings. I put the bearings one at a time onto
a 60 watt light bulb to heat them up enough to slip onto
the shaft without a press or hammer. Wearing a glove to
protect my hand from the hot bearing I was able to slide
the bearings onto the shaft with ease. I used a small
c-clamp to press the split pins into place. I didn't want to use
a hammer to bang them in. That would not be good for that shaft
hanging out with no support under it. You may end up wrecking
the bearings or crack the shaft housing also. Also make sure
the split in the pin is in line with rotation . I used Yamabond #4
on all of the gaskets.

Wednesday after work I was able to finally put the two halves of tractor
back together. It takes a little fiddling with those sections to get
them to slide together along with lining up the front wheel
drive shaft so it slides together also. Here are a few pictures.
