Great video. That's a tough situation you're in, but looks like you have the know-how and ability to fix it. Anymore I've come to the conclusion I needed a spare parts tractor to keep mine going and went that route. Unfortunately it's pretty hard to just get one of these tractors at any time either working or for parts (and cost is obviously an issue). Good luck and keep us informed.

Here are a few pictures of the 4 wheel drive gear
after I turn it 180 degrees. It now will engage.

Amazing the last guy working on it didn't see that when he assembled it. Great job!

Goes to show that a few pics here and there can really help out when putting things back together. I bet whoever did that was questioning which way it should have went at the time. I guess they had a 50/50 chance if they were in a hurry and didn't want to trace out the mechanics behind it.

I was able to remove the transmission from the rear diff housing.
there are a lot of metal chips inside. After looking at the transmission
I believe that one of main ball bearings failed and that whole shaft
flopped around inside of transmission and caused a lot of
problems. That shaft is the one that also has the 4 wheel drive
gear on the end. I think that gear was replaced because the original
one broke into pieces and I think that one of those pieces jammed into
the 4 wheel drive out put gear which then broke the chunk out of
the front gear set cover. I will be taking the transmission completely
apart now to clean it and check for other damage.

Advise to previous owner: "When you hear metal to metal grinding, stop the tractor and have it repaired"

Nice documentation.

The gear that's welded to the shaft in the fourth picture looks odd to me. I've never tore down an Iseki gearbox but I did take apart a Satoh one and none of the gears I can remember were welded to any of their respective shafts. They all had splines and lock rings. I would think welding a gear would cause distortion of the shaft, especially welded in what appears to be a continuous circumferential path like that. It's a nice looking weld so maybe it is factory but I'd feel better knowing it's suppose to be that way moving forward. I don't have my parts list handy so I can't confirm anything at the moment. I'll take a look when I have access to it unless someone else can in the meantime.

But why just the one gear if the weld were factory? I think your hunch is right, it looks like a repair job.

I was able to polish all of the burrs and smooth out some of the chipped
teeth. here are a few pictures of the gears after polishing.
