Other than removing the deck (which I do not want to do), does anyone have any experience in changing the oil on a 2210? There's not enough room for a tray or pan. The local dealer says he uses an old piece of rolled up cardboard to drain the oil to a pan, but I can't see keeping an oil-saturated piece of cardboard around. Thanks for any ideas or suggestions.

Maybe you could sharpen the blades and grease the mower deck at the same time you change the oil?
On one machine a while back, I was able to thread a pipe nipple into the oil drain hole so that the oil would drain somewhere where I could put a container. If you try this, make sure the threads match. If you have a drain plug with a square head, the threads are probably standard tapered IPT (Iron Pipe Threads). A threaded iron black pipe would probably fit that hole (as would a $$$ brass pipe nipple). |

Taking the MMM off takes 5 minutes...you will spend more time trying to deal with getting the waste oil contained than that IMHO

I agree with KennyD. I have a 2305 and it takes less than 5 minutes to take the deck off. Two pins, disconnect the driveshaft, turn the wheels then take off the front mount and your done.

Try aluminum oil. If you fold a sheet repeatedly upon it'self you can mold and shape it to fit around most anything. Then just scrunch it up upon itself when your done and throw it out.

There's more pressure than you think when you open that plug. You're going to want some room to monkey that pan around to catch it!

I tried an oil change once on my 2210 leaving the deck on but never again. Used a funnel attached to a hose. Ended up getting oil spilled on my gravel driveway that required about 30 minutes of cleanup time including time spent burning up the remaining oil with a propane torch that I wasn't able to remove by shovelling. I'd spend the 5 minutes taking the deck off..... It'll save you 45minutes and countless oily "fire-hazzard" rags of clean up time!

Once you learn how to pull that deck, it will be easy.

The worst part is the oil runs right into and behind the front driveshaft boot if I remember back to my 2210 days. Its stupid, and I always used a piece of Vinyl siding to direct the oil out the side and into the drain pan.
