Default Vertical exhaust; quieter?

I'm thinking about installing a vertical exhaust on my 4320 cab tractor. What is your experience as far as noise when going vertical, more or less engine noise???

On my cabless tractor I don't think it made a difference in noise level. The noise went from being aimed down & forward to up & forward. What it did help was reducing heat and smoke from coming back into the operator station. I am very pleased with the results other than I don't think a piece of pipe, two muffler clamps, and a bracket are worth $100

I think putting a vertical Exhaust was the best thing I ever did to my JD 3120. It is alot quieter then the standed exhuast. You will be using the same Exhaust on your tractor as there is on my 3120.Here is picture of the Exhaust

DMP & Matthew, Thanks for your intel about the vertical pipe.

I can tell a hugh difference in noise level when I have the FEL attatched. This seems to channel more exhaust noise from the ground up towards the cab. The same situation occurred with my 4300. It ran much quieter without the FEL. Seems to me that a vertical pipe would allow more reduction in noise. The only problem I see with going vertical is that some of the exhaust might end up getting sucked into the cab via the A/C system. That probably would not be a good thing either so I'll have to give this some more thought.

Thanks,

ArkLaTexSam

You won't get any exhaust into the cab at all. The filters are on the back of the cab, not in the front. Absolutley no fumes at all, that is not even an issue to be concerned about.

I installed vertical exhaust on my 3520 w/ cab. I really did not hear any noticable noise difference.Of course I have a 30 percent hearing loss from running heavy equipment for 30 years.

Put your ear right down there by that exhaust outlet and then do the same on the opposite side. Much difference? I didn't think so when I did that a while ago.
Most of the noise seems to be coming from... somewhere else. The engine block itself?
In my completely ignorant opinion, I'd say you won't hear a difference with the vertical exhaust.
The difference you hear with the loader on is likely reflections and increased surface area and height of parts radiating sonic energy.

Thanks for everyone's reply to this thread. Jeepinater, you are right about the 4320 being a loud machine. If I did not have a cab I wouldn't be able to stand the noise. This machine has got to be one of the loudest on earth.

Your are not the first person I've read who said that. I have not heard one in person, but I am not a fan of noise for the most part, so I am glad the 3000s are quieter. I've gotten used to... almost enjoy the deisel sound?

What I want to do is extend the low exhaust style on my tractor just enough to point it up or out a hair. Pointing forward and down just seems crazy. Dust? Yes please.

So I had thoughts of the vertical axhaust as well, but for a different reason. But I was curious if it would be quiter, so I stuck my head down there and it wasn't any louder than any where else near the engine. So I figured it was just **** noisy and had a good muffler, heh.
