60" tiller on 2305

I’m running a 50” tiller on my 2210, but at times it really works the tractor. I wouldn’t recommend putting a 60” tiller on either 2210 /2305. JD recommends a 48” tiller for both 2305/2210.

It's an interesting theory to share a tiller on such different size tractors,,

What may work out is a 50" offset tiller, that way he can still
run it offset on his larger width tractor, and you can run it
behind your tractor centered. I think the Frontier is an offset
tiller...

I reread your post about working an existing garden. That should be much easier than breaking new ground. JC

I've got a 48" tiller on my 2210 and it handles it very well. For my light sandy soil type I would be comfortable with the tractors power with a five foot tiller. My 48" is around 460 lbs and the tractor will just handle it with no quick hitch and no loader for ballast. I have to use it this way sometimes for getting into tight spots. Any heavier and you will dfinitely need ballast. I just bought a quick hitch that is going to hang it out back a few more inches so I might not be able to get away without the loader for ballast this year. So be certain that your tractor will handle the weight and as well as the power requirements. I find my 2210 a very competant maching as long as you respect it's limitations.

Oh yes and my Buhler Farm King 48 (has about a 45" actual tilling width) is an offsetable tiller. I use it this way to cover my tracks and to get up closer to the trees

"Besides, with the KK 60" it works out to about $600 with 50/50 split. We'll each have about 50% use anyway"

I ended up buying a used Howard 48" tiller I run off my 2210. Paid $600 and it was local so no shipping cost. Seems like the tiller is very well built, so I thought there was good value in going used.

I got a 5 ft kk tiller, gear drive good tiller will out last 2-3 tractors I bet,,,,but,,it is very heavy,,maybe over 700 lbs?,,or close,,,,I got a 25 hp nortrac jinma,,,believe its a good bit beefier than yours,[not better just heavier and bigger tractor],,,its maybe too big for mine,,plus like they said, you might have to alter the 3 point,,and cut the drive line, than it won't work for the bigger tractor probably,,,no need tearing up your tractor to save money,,,thingy[edit here,he already did the smart thing I now read]

Thanks guys for all the good advice, this is what I was looking for. I think I am going to give it a try. The soil is a rich loam, but not clay, and no rocks (I'm in Indiana). It is an existing garden that has been tilled every year. I don't have much concern about the tractor having enough PTO power to till the soil on the 60", but the weight of the tiller might pose a problem. The 60" KK is supposed to be near 700lbs. With the FEL for front ballast I think it will do it, judging from my experience with my 500+ lb ballast box. The 60" will cover my tracks too, as it might compact the soil a bit. I'll report back my findings hopefully with pictures of a nicely tilled garden!

backup,

Whatever you decide, check the length of the pto shaft. If it is too long, as I wouldn't be surprised with the bigger unit, it can do a bunch of damage to your pto which Deere won't cover under warranty. :)

Update, got the 60" KK home and hooked up. Everything fits perfect with the iMatch. PTO shaft is not too long. Nothing special required other than hook it up. The 3PT lifts it just fine so far. Havn't had it in the dirt yet (too wet now) but will soon, and will take some pics. As I mentioned, this is a well worked garden, loam soil with no rocks. I know this thing is big for the 2305 but so far so good. You can for sure tell it's back there but with some weight in the FEL it seems to handle it OK.

The only hard part was getting it out of the pickup. I could only lift it by curling the bucket (chained, with the FEL at max height). Got it raised a couple inches, pulled the truck forward, then lowered it to the ground. Once there I could only lift it maybe 12 inches with a chain on the FEL. Still, I was kind of surprised the little 2305 could do it at all.
