Default Re: 8a vs 8b backhoe whats the diff?

Grizz -- Thanks. Great photos.

Looks like the swing cylinders on the 8B are a solid, chrome shaft. The 8A has large chain links extending from the hydraulic cylinder that forces the boom to the left and right.

From your pics, the basic layout looks like -- for the most part -- identical from the 8A to the 8B.

My owner's manual lists the specs for the 8A as;
Boom lift ability -- 400 lbs.
Bucket roll force -- 3,200 lbs. (estimated)
Bucket pry-out force -- in excess of 6,000 lbs.
Operating weight -- less subframe mount and bucket -- 950 lbs.
18in. bucket weight -- 94 lbs.

Digging depth -- 8 ft. 6 in.
Loading height -- 6 ft. 10 in.
Reach for Center line of Swing pivot -- 11 ft. 1 in.

There are other specs, but they're not all that sexy; i.e. stabilizer spread, ground clearance etc.

I took some of my own advice --- and went snooping around on a web site that listed the eqipment specs in a *.pdf format. The deere site for governmental purchases. Here it is and it lists quite a bit of JD equipment.

ttp://www.deere.com/en_US/govsales/purchaseguide/2006PG/links/30_31.pdf

This one lists the specifications for the JD7 and JD8B backhoes.

If you want to review some of the technical specifications for various JD equipment (utility-landscape) go here ---

ttp://www.deere.com/en_US/govsales/purchaseguide/

Go here and click on the purchasing guide. A single page *.pdf file will load up. Click on the individual attachment reference and page number within that page. That will bring up the *.pdf specs for the particular attachment.

Enjoy

I have an 8b hoe on order for my 970 but am researching a thumb for it. I am looking for the width of the arm where the base of the thumb would attach, can somone give me that dimension as I can not find it anywhere on the internet?
