    Default 2008 5203 4WD Price ans Compare

Here we go again. I've about sold my 5103 and looking for 4WD. I called three dealers to look for 3 quotes. Got one back today:

    5203 4WD w/ 522 Loader
    -R4 tires
    -Horizontal rear exhaust
    -Hood guard
    -iMatch
    -2nd rear SCV
    -Rear work light x2
    -Tool box (fender mount)
    -73 " heavy duty bucket
    -Skid steer carrier
    -72" tooth bar
    -Skid steer bale spear

    $27,250 delivered

New machine, anybody else have any pricing to compare?

For that price, what 4x20 can I get with the same options?

    Thanks in advance.

I paid about $26k for a 5105, which did not include a 2nd rear SCV, skid steer QA, rear lights, toolbox, bale spear, or tooth bar. I will hazard a guess that the value of those items is in the neighborhood of $1250.

Based on my experience you would get a 4120 gear for around $24k without the extras (but with 400X FEL). Figure an extra $1000 for HST and $1500 for each 5hp bump in power (4320, 4520, 4720). Unless you want/need HST I think the 5203 will be more tractor with less stuff to break.

Incidentally, do you want the rear exhaust? Where does it come out - will it be blowing on you when changing implements? I consider the upright exhaust stack to be a plus.

I like the horizontal exhaust because I mow in/around/under a lot of trees. Most of my place is flat and I can put the ROPS down and get a "prettier" cut.

I got quote #2: $27,301 for the same package.

I figured a 4120 HST or 4320 gear would be close to the same price.

I really like the stability and size of the 03 series, though.

I think I'd have to find a 4520/400CX/Gear with the same options for the same price to really make me consider the 4X20 series.

Why bother looking at the 4x20? It seems you liked your 5103 except for being 2wd. The 5203 MFWD will fix that and give you a couple other nice upgrades, and should be just as durable as the 5103. I think the 4x20 are good tractors but they are CUTs and I expect the utility models to keep running twice as long and be far harder to break.

    Chip, have you considered a 4WD 5103?

Yes, but the pto hp on the new 5103 is a little slim, I think 38 hp vs. 45 hp for the new 5203. I've used every bit of hp on my current 5103 with all this rain we've had this year.

Just don't want to bog down my shredder.

i know what you mean. i am sort of in the same situation as you. if the new 5103 had the same hp as they used to i would probably get one with 4wd, but will either get a 5203, or a used 5105/5205. im just not sure how well 38pto hp would run a medium duty 6' bush hog in thick stuff. is the 522 loader the quick attatch? how do you think those R4's will do with all the rain yall have had compared to an R1?

522 loader is a quick attach/detach from the tractor. Only the 512 is a permanently mounted loader. (All JD loaders have a quick attach for the bucket.)
