Looking at these two; uses will be few hundred hours of flail mowing each spring and normal round the property tasks. They look essentially the same machine / engine with the exception of the turbo on the 3520. Is strapping a turbo on this block trying to get more out of the engine than originally designed for? How much will the extra heat effect the life of the engine?

As to flail mower, just get the green one that the dealer is selling or hunt around?

Thanks

Decide what cutter you want to use, then see how much hp you need. The turbo will not harm the engine. JC

I have never felt the need for less power. LOL.

the 3320 engine is a bit bigger in cubic inches than the 35/37's with the turbo, they turboed the smaller 3120? i just got the 3320, for what i do..it is great

Hi bessemer,

I have owned both of these machines and both were great (with the exception of a maligned recurring leaking rear main seal on the 3320--the first of the two).

The 3320 seemed to give more low rpm grunt than the 3520, despite what the manual tells me... if you are planning on doing more loader and non-PTO work with the machine. There is no replacement for displacement--I preferred the 3320 doing loader work & boxblading under 2000 rpm's.

IF PTO work is the predominant use of the machine (i.e. you have the engine revved up enough for the turbo to do it's job correctly), or you just love to hear the bang of the diesel & whine of the turbo there is a noticeable improvement in the 3520 over the 3320. Bushogging & tilling are where the extra torque (oh right horsepower...;)) really helped. No bogging down like before in the tall/sticky stuff.

If the extra $$$ on the payment don't bother you, get the turbo

Now those are an MX-5 and a KK 60 inch tiller... I have never used a flail mower, so idk what kind of resistance you run into with that implement.

My .02 anyway. Both machines are a pleasure to operate. Good luck!

Hiya,

Get the turbo, you know you want to. To my ears any kind of blower sounds better than a stereo.:D

My 2 PSI,

If you need a turbo, why not look at a 3720?

I owned an open 3320 and now have a 3720 cab. More hp difference than the 3320 to the 3520 but very noticeable when I'm doing PTO work. Load work I don't think you'll notice too much when working the loader but when transporting the load it's noticeable.

The 3320 does have the biggest block in the 3000 series. The 3120, 3520, and 3720 all have the same block (3120 naturally aspirated and the 3520 and 3720 differ only in boost and an intercooler on the 3720).

If you don't mind spending the $$$ get the Turbo but as another post said, why not go all the way for the 3720..... ;)

In my case, I was going for the 3320 but the dealer had a 3520 that was custom ordered, then canceled, so it was almost cheaper to get the 3520 then the 3320. All in all though, I love this tractor and it does everything I want it to with plenty of power to spare.
