In talking to a couple local dealers about used equipment, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of warranty coverage: one offered 30 days after saying they usually don't offer any; and another said no warranty.

These are later-model machines (one 2004, the other 2006). The 2004 (a 4710) has 1000 hours, and they offered the 30-day warranty. The 2006 (a 3520) has 250 hours, no warranty [and no factory warranty remaining that the dealer is aware of, although it seems like some of the powertrain warranty should be].

Is this standard practice? What do you think of the risk of dropping around $20K with no warranty?

You should be able to purchase Powergaurd protection through Deere. You have to send the fluids off for analisis. If they approve it then your in good shape. If they don't don't buy the machine.

No Warranty is the standard practice when it come to the used tractor market.

Also even with the normal "As-is" practice, you can negotiate.
