You might want to also consider the John Deere 3032E or 3038E. Size wise they are bigger than the 2720 but a bit smaller than the 3320. There are several posts here from people that have bought them and they seem to offer a lot for a reasonable price.

The 2720 and 3320 are both good tractors. The 3320 is the most heavy duty of the tractors, with higher 3 point and loader lift capacities. Also has the eHydro system with LoadMatch (stall prevention) and cruise control that can be upgraded to an automotive style (accel/decel/resume). Mid PTO is standard with the 2720 and optional with the 3320. It is not available with the 3E series. 2720 and 3320 have turning brakes. 3E has one brake pedal. 3E capacities are between the 2720 and 3320. 3E loader is not quick tach, while the 2720 and 3320 loaders are. The 3E bucket is easily removed though.

You should consider the 3038e - 38HP, Hydrostat, Loader, Ind Tires - less than $18,000.

Thanks for the tips to check out the E models. I'm surprised that my local dealer did not even mention them!

Can someone give me some more insight on the differences between the series? It sounds like the options on the 3320 are similar to the New Holland Boomers or the Kubota Grand L series (not "standard" tractors).

The specs on the 3038e seem much different than the 3320. The 3038e with 38 hp (turbo?) has 1350 lb 3PH lift capacity and it weighs 2100 lb. The 3320 is 5 less hp, but has 2200 lb 3ph lift capacity and weighs 2900 lb. I think tire size was the same on both. Is chassis size the same? Is the 3038e that much lighter duty or am i missing something?

I will add that I would not go for a 2720 unless you really need that HP in a narrow profile. It will be the least stable side to side because it is kind of tall for it's width. The 2320 is shorter and therefore more stable, but only 24 HP. The e series is the economy/basic tractor series so it is lighter with less capacity on purpose. If you want max loader capacity and creature comforts, stick with the 20 series (3320 in your case). If money is your concern, the e is for you. I have the 2320 with 1100 lb loader capacity and 1400 lb 3-point capacity. I sometimes wish the loader could lift more, but it gets the job done. I certainly would not want less capacity, and some of the other brands have far less in this price range - so look carefully.

So is this correct??

3038e - 38 hp - 1350 lb 3PH lift capacity
2320 - 24 hp - 1400 lb 3PH lift capacity

From the John Deere website:

3038E - 37.1 gross HP - 1356 lbs 3PH lift capacity (24" behind hitch balls)
2320 - 24.1 gross HP - 1150 lbs 3PH lift capacity (24" behind hitch balls)

The 2320 lift capacity is also given as 1433 lbs at the hitch balls. A similar measure is not provided for the 3E series. The 24" behind is the standard way of specifying 3 point lift capacity as it more closely relates to the weight of attachments that can be picked up.

Thanks...that makes a little more sense. I assumed incorrectly that ScottK's 1400 lbs was at 24" behind. Still, the specs are comparatively low for the 37.1 hp tractor.

I think the price is good on the 2720..I bought mine and gave 20599 with loader, weight box, I-Match, and 62 MMM ....I think I got a good deal shopped for months before I was ready to buy...My 2720 does everything I need it to do...Mow,,,,plow the driveway...move the manuer pile.. and so on...lot of horse power that I probably dont need or use...my 4100 JD did everything and really didn't need the 2720..I will say with the extra hp with the 2720 allows me to mow when its wet without stalling...only benifet so far with the extra HP...but im glad i have it.. really assess your needs before buying...you may be able to save some money

I purchased a 3032E with front loader bucket today for $15,498. How much more would a 3038E been in price?

I have 17.4 acres and I need to clear land to build fence, ponds, trails & mow.
