It's too bad that "2520 New promotion from John deere $2,500 off now !!!" thread had to be closed, though I understand why, so I'll have to answer RaisedOnDeere's question here.

LOL ensoll,

I see you got your [new 2520] tractor dirty already.. I never in a million years thought my news would create such controversy...
You & I procrastinated just long enough to score the deal.. Came right down to the wire though..

I have been spending a lot of time on your website ensoll trying to talk myself into a set of those pallet forks and all the great things I could move with them.. Are you powder coating them now?

Hey RoD,

Yes, the frames are being powder coated John Deere Green. This started for two reasons, one, people kept asking about it and two, the cold winter season here made painting more difficult. Powder coating is more expensive (though I only partially raised the price for as long as I can stand it-or can get the costs down). However, my old original set was only spray painted and it still looks great.

Other incremental improvements of late are more notches for fork positioning, a higher grade of steel for the fork rails over the originals, and chain hooks built in at all four corners for load support and lifting. Also, I've finally found a good packaging solution for shipping the frames. Anyone who got a set early on had to unwrap a mummified frame (which took me 1 hour to wrap each one and caused me many sore backs). Now, you more or less just open the box and put it to work. This was much more difficult to accomplish than one would think. We've also managed to get some nice decals designed and made for the frames (which I am now trying to mail out to everyone who already owns a set). And last, but certainly not least, I thankfully have the help of a truly professional weldor. His work is so pretty that I don't even want to touch the machine anymore.

There will be more additions/changes coming this spring/summer and I'm also still striving to develop a solution for the older pin on style loaders (I'm trying guys!!). There are some other plans in development which should be really cool, not to mention all of the other ideas people have offered and requested.

So, I hope that answers your question and then some. I really appreciate having your curiosity RoD and thanks again and again and again for the JD $2500 promotion mention.

Chris,

Thanks for the excellent explanation. I guess you have been busy improving them. The powder coating will definitely make those rails look nicer, longer especially if someones going to be leaving them outside. The Chain slots are very nice as well. Good JOB  I will email you to see how much it will cost me for shipping.. That might get me closer to a purchase. :D

I had better clarify that the fronts of the rails still remain uncoated. This is because I don't believe that any coating will last 5 minutes against the forks. I have considered sandblasting them to improve the finish but the mill scale is actually a perfect protectant. Plus, since they have a very slight texture to them, it actually makes it easier to slide the forks. Lately, I have been recommending to rub a bit of candle wax or a thin grease film on the contact areas to keep things sliding smoothly. That's how they are shipping now. My own personal set has been dry and bare all of its life, though and working fine for me.
