I am in the process of purchasing 40 acres.

Breakdown is:
20 ac woods
10 ac hay
5 ac homesite, meaning grass
5 ac low land

I would like to:
Clear and maintain trees/grass
Level 1000ft road
Move some dirt/rocks/hay
Possibly cut/bale hay in the future
Some snow removal

I am looking at:
3000 or 4000 series JD
Hydro so my wife can drive it
Also will prob buy dedicated mower like x500

This has been a tough process for me. I think the main options are 3720 or 4x20. Money is a concern so I don't want to over buy, but I have read about many people trading up...
I have also read that 3000 series is not good for hay because of size/strength.
I would not bale much, prob only 5 ac a few times a year, but I want the tractor to last.

Thanks in advance!

I work alot of small properties myself and have found the x749, 4520 and 110tlb to handle just about everything I do. I suspect you would be far better off to have someone else bale your hay, and then you could do everything else.
