Buying Advice Buying advice for JD 609 about 1985 model?

Found rotary mower owner asking 1200.00. Unit appears in good condition, what are your thoughts in buying this age rotary mower, would parts be avilible? Serial number starts with 46...,,

A 609 in good condition is a better mower than my MX6 is imo. If you have found a good one in good shape I think the price is fair. This is a good case for new isn't always better. The 609 is a heavy duty model and should last a long time.

JD still offers the 609 HD cutter. So, parts availability is a non-problem! Good, reliable HD machine. You'll be able to hand it down to your kids!

Very HD machine, hard to say on price without seeing. I looked at abeat one several years ago and they wanted $1500. Looked like the blades ahd tried to cut thru the deck and they welded patches all over it. I did not even make an offer.

A new one is close to 5k today, the $1,000 - $1,500 is probably appropriate for a fair used unit. As mentioned above still being made today and are a stout little cutter. The unit gear case is rated for abut 25 more hp than the mx but could handle about 75 more so was a common choice for larger tractor owners that wanted a simple single spindle cutter. And did not want to crater a gear case on a mx or lighter cutter.
