Price Check 1988 John Deere 1050 - Newbie Looking for a Good Personal Use Tractor

Hi Everyone,
I am looking for a good tractor for the following uses:

-moving cut trees (about 8-12' long and from 1-2' in diameter)
-moving lifting rocks on my property (I live in rural CT and we have a LOT of rock/ledge)
-leveling out land (moving soil with rock)
-digging out stumps

I found this machine for sale locally and was wondering if it's a good or bad deal? What should I look out for? Is this JD a good tractor? I appreciate the feedback/comments.

Assuming everything works and it looks as good as it does in the pictures, I'd buy it in a heart beat...
Don't dawdle about...I expect that machine will sell quickly.

Your really not gonna find any machine with a backhoe for that kind of money. Before I purchased my 870 I was looking at a 950 with same setup except 2wd and I almost bought it for $9000.00. The only thing that stopped me was it was 2wd (I already have a 2wd 950) and it was'nt in near the condition that 1050 your lookin at is in..Those older 50 series are built tough!!

Yeah....it looks like a great deal, although I need to try to negotiate about 2-3K lower. I have a feeling this won't go through. I plan to go see it this weekend.

Be sure to take along a catcher's mask for when the door gets slammed in your face! You might be lucky if it's still there this weekend. If it were near me, it would be gone by now!

I suggest you call first...wouldn't be surprised if it's sold by then.

As far as offering less money...well, that can't hurt. But I know if it was my tractor to sell, I wouldn't accept a lower bid.

That is one nice tractor. 37hp with 33pto hp with mfwd, wow. That tractor looks months old instead of years old. Man I love the older JD iron. I'm with the others, if it works as good as it looks, I would doubt a lower price could be had.

We have had a '84 950 since 1986. The same machine as yours, except for the turbo, more power, bigger tires and a trans to handle it all.

I think you would be very happy, especially with a hoe

I would'nt be suprised if thats in somebody elses garage by now. but good luck offering 2 grand less, lol. Your not gonna find another TLB thats as clean as that one for under 10 grand anytime soon. That seller has either sold it or has someone lined up to buy it..
