I was at the EAA AirVenture and saw the new 46 subframe mounted backhoe. Looks pretty good and appears to allow the use of a MMM when it is not attached. I totally forgot to take pictures, I'm not use to having my camera with me, sorry! They also have new subframe mounts for the 42xx and the 43xx models.

Please do post all you can on the 46 backhoe. Picures would be a big plus. I'm waiting to get my 4110 until I know for certain that the hoe is compatible with the mmm. Thanks.

Does anyone know of a website where I can find out specs, costs, etc... about this unit? The JD site has no info at all about the 46 backhoe.

I paid $5800 for the 46 backhoe, subframe and 9" bucket. Freight was an additinal $91. Power beyond kit was $200. Installation was going to be $480, but I installed it myself.

I believe if you build a tractor on the JD website, and pick attachments you can get the details on the 46.

Total weight: 896
Dipperstick digging force: 1250 lb.
Bucket digging force: 2450 lb.

You do have to remove the MMM and 3 point hitch to use the backhoe which takes about 15 minutes. Care has to be taken when removing/installing the 3 point/MMM mount system or you will have to level the MMM when you reinstall it.

It's a decent digger. For comparison, when I picked it up, it was sitting next to a JD47 backhoe. The 47 was quite a bit larger in all aspects...cylinders, metal thickness. The 46 is more of a homeowner unit probably released to help JD compete with the BX22. I have not use the 46 enough to fully evaluate it.

Here is how the subframe attaches to the rear of the tractor. Notice how much of the 3 point has been removed.

The rear mounting support is replaced with a heavy duty mounting support.
