Are you trading down from your x749? While I would prefer a quick attach deck I wouldn't trade my 749 for a gas mower. I should also mention that when the x749 was introduced was after the other models by two years, there may be an x759 in the future too.

I don't think he ever bought a 749. He was looking at buying one

Correct I have a 2012 x749 being delivered this next week but am trying to find out how good of a deal I am getting by going with a 2012. I got out the door for 11k even with a 54" deck but am guessing that a 2013 x739 is selling for about 12.5k and is not even a diesel.

A am told that unless they can bring down the weight on the new tier 4 diesel there won't be one because with the 4wd and AWS it will require a ROPS

sounds to me like they are creeping into 1023 territory with that price and not even a diesel

I am just glad I jumped on the 2012 before it was too late. Proven performer and I think it looks better anyway. I know the deck is better but how much better? I don't need a 7 iron style deck because I have a 3520 with a flail for the large stuff. The drive over to me is a gimic for these smaller decks because you still have to get under the tractor to unhook it then drive off it vs pull it out the side. Then what? you still have to move it somewhere by hand unless you leave your mower deck in the middle of your garage floor. Plus the dealer said it is another $300 for the auto connect feature on the driver over decks if you want the drive shaft to connect in when you drive back over to put it back on. I think it makes more sense on the 7 iron decks for larger tractors like the 3520 since the deck weighs so much.

All that being said I am not bashing the 2013 models and if they had a drive over deck as the standard deck on the 2012s I wouldn't complain. I think where the High capacity decks really make their money is in the really tall grass such as a field that hasn't been mowed in a while.

An x749 and the x739 are alot better for mowing than the 1023 is.

I think you got a good price on the x749, enjoy your new mower.

of course dude. it is smaller. I wasn't suggesting he buy one. I was just saying as it is a machine with more capability for others. so it should be priced accordingly. Smaller machine and less capable should be priced that way. You get the idea what I meant. The guy already has a machine for bigger duties so I was making a statement toward john deere and speaking aloud

The differences between a 749 and a 1023 are very slim. Neither will do heavy work but both can handle small jobs about the same, the 1023 has a fel capability and the 749 has manueverability. I use my 749 for close quarters work with my other tractors and it does a better job than I anticipated.
